Hypocrite 03:48

about

The first single to be taken from Pama International’s upcoming Southern Soul of Jamaica LP (number 4 in their Altruistic Soul series), is a version of The Heptones classic Hypocrite, given PI's southern soul treatment!

PI's Southern Soul of Jamaica see’s the band make a rare excursion in a covers album territory. Selecting some of their favourite Jamaica rocksteady & early reggae Jamaican classics and reworking them in a southern soul style. There are many examples of Jamaican artists covering US soul hits but very few, going the other way. The Staples Singers reworking of Liquidator into their amazing I’ll Take You There is one of the few we can think of.

“We recorded all the songs last year, but didn’t get a chance to mix them until this weekend. On rehearing our cover of The Heptones' brilliant Hypocrite it was immediately apparent that it would make a fantastic single”.
